Driving Directions:
Start in York village and head east on 1A towards York Harbor. Going past Saint Christopher's on your right, you will come to 103 South, also on your right. Turn here. When you get to the bottom of the hill, you will find a small parking area on your left. Park here. The bridge over York River, if you continued down 103, marks the start of York Harbor.

Letter Box Clues:
Carefully crossing the street you will walk onto the causway. At the start of the causway, pause to read about the history of the area. Barrell Mill Pond is the area to your right. The causway damn was built in 1726. As you walk the causway look up river, you will see Sewall's Bridge built in 1775. This was originally a draw bridge owned and opperated by the Sewall's family for generations. This is the oldest completely wooden-still in use-bridge in the U.S. (when The End was a kid even the road bed was still wooden). Watch for herons and cranes in the pond and along the river (when box was placed there was an ardea herodius in a shallow fishing). Cross the Wiggley Bridge built in 1936. You'll come to Steedman Woods. There is a large sign straight ahead of you showing a lay out of the area. Path forks to your left and right. Go left along the river. As you walk along you will to a green and white sign saying "Stay on Path."(sign has been washed out and is now at the start of the path, leaning against a tree) Slighly ahead of you on your right will be a white birch with three trunks paths side.on the right. Moving on you will come to several pines on your right. Just past these there is an open area on your right. Looking to your right a few paces off the path, you will see two oak trees with four trunks (the second is where you start). Standing with your right shoulder to the oak, look north. You will see several pines. Look at the one set back the farthest that splits into lots of trunks about 6 or 7 feet up.BEHIND the pine with almost no bark. Go to this one, look behind it beneath its wispering branches and among its sheltering roots to find what you seek.
