The River Trail Nature Center is on Milwaukee Avenue, just east of River Road. Please click on the link above to check their hours. The nature center building, which is worth a visit, is closed one day a week so they can clean the animal habitats. Also, there is another letterbox at the nature center: see Pico's River Trail.

There is poison oak in these woods, but not in this hiding spot last time I checked. There is no inkpad in this letterbox.

Clue Reader and Family

CLUES:

Start at the animal cages on the East side of the parking lot. Find the little red fox. It is her stamp that you are looking for. This fox was hit by a car and can no longer survive in the wild. But sometimes she might dream about what she might do if she could again prowl the woods...

She smells the river behind the nature center building. I think she would start by walking around that way. On the North side of the lawn is the entrance to a trail (the Little Fort trail to those of us who can read). She follows the trail through a gate and over a bridge.

Soon she has a choice at a fork in the trail. She goes left (toward Allison Woods). She runs quickly over another small bridge and straight past a sign post (Green Bay Trail Loop). When she sees a vernal pond, she thinks it would be the perfect place to find a den, something small and hopefully dry, in which to rest.

On the left side of the trail are a bench and a kiosk. From the left side of the bench to the right side of the kiosk is 5 human steps. Six steps past the right side of the kiosk on the left side of the trail is a tree with the tiny fox den on the South side, down low.

Please make sure the fox is comfortably hidden when you go.
