The Dala (pronounced daw-lah) Horse is a Swedish and Swedish-American icon from the Dalarna province of Sweden where craftspeople have carved and painted the small wooden horses for generations. The traditional color of Dala Horses is a bright orange-red, but they are also to be found in natural wood, or painted white, blue, or black, all with brightly colored painted kurbit-type trim.
The original Dala Horse (Dalahäst) has been around for many centuries, and probably was created by Swedish woodcutters in the province of Dalarna near Mora in Sweden. During the long winters, these lonely men would spend their evenings away from their families, and passed their time by carving little toys for their children. While these carved wooden toys, made from the scraps of the men's occupation, were mostly horses, some were also roosters or pigs. However, the most enduring of these little creatures remains the Dala Horse.

Clues: The Dala Horse Letterbox is located at the American Legion Park, 4015 Lexington in Missouri City. Prom the parking lot walk south passing 8 trees planted on the shore of the lake towards the gray water tank. Standing you’re your back at the north corner post of the privacy fence surrounding the water tank walk (northeast) 36 paces to the dirt path. On the dirt path walk east 45 steps following the path. You should end up close to the gas pipeline warning sign. Facing southeast you will see one large tree. The Dala Horse Letterbox is hidden in a knot in the tree.
