***MISSING***

About a half mile round trip walk. Stroller/kid friendly. Dogs on leash only.

This microbox was placed while on a trip to Moab for the Box On The Rocks Gathering. Thanks to Kat - I used her clues for help with the directions and info. Be sure to check out the other boxes in this area!

Dead Horse Point has a wonderful view and it overlooks the canyonlands. One legend as to how this aea got its name is that a herd of horses were driven up onto the end of the mesa, and blocked off the neck of the mesa (it is only 30 feet wide at this spot with a HUGE drop on either side), nobody knows whether the horses were forgotten or left there on purpose, but they all died up there in view of all that water in the river.

Directions: (About 30 minutes from downtown Moab.) Go north from town on Hwy 191 about 9 miles or so and look for signs going to Canyonlands National Park and Dead Horse Point. Turn left on Hwy. 313 and follow up the mesa for about 14 miles. There will be a sign and a Y in the road at about 14 miles. Turn left to Dead Horse Point. (There is an entrance fee for this state park) Enter the park and follow road all the way to the end parking lot.

From the kiosk go to the viewpoint. Turn left and follow the asphalt trail, always keeping the cliff on your right, and when you come to a fork, take the right turn and go to the end - final viewpoint. (Don't bust the crust - stay on the trail). Then turn away from the viewpoint and look back the way you just came, and see the first big rock on the right of the path - away from the cliff edge side. The rock dweller is waiting there for you. Please rehide him well - he likes it behind the rocks.
