UNDER RECONSTRUCTION...
IT APPEARS SOME LOCALS HAVE HELPED THEMSELVES TO OUR LETTERBOXES. WE WILL BE CORRECTING THIS SHORTLY SO CHECK BACK SOON.

Who’s Afraid of The Big Bad Wolf?
This quest will begin in Glen Rock and will take you through Paramus and Ridgewood. Make your way to the Glen Rock Duck Pond area of the Saddle River County Park. The entrance is from Alan Street at Prospect Street. Park in any of the parking spaces you find. Note: This park is very busy in nice weather, especially on weekends.

Clue : Easy
Terrain : Easy
Time : 2 hours

To complete this quest you must count the number of park benches you pass (or sit on). Note they all look the same (perhaps made by the pigs cousin, plastic pig). Count only those benches you pass, and count each one only once - even if you pass it again. You will use this count later on in the clue.

1. To find Piper Pig’s straw house, walk towards the tennis courts and note the building (bathroom) on your left. Take the path leading towards “Ridgewood, Dunkerhook, Fair Lawn”. Follow this path until you pass a bridge on your left. See the ‘Niagra’ in Paramus next to the “Purple Plum”. After admiring the falls, continue on the path past the benches. You will come to another bridge, this one you will cross. Continue on the main trail. At the split head towards the “Brook” and the “Park”. After you pass the playground on the your left and the picnic area you will pass 3 stop signs. The big black arrow in the field of yellow will show you the way. Where an old bridge once crossed the river, you will see a path to your left. As you follow the path and cross the new bridge (don’t worry you don’t have to be ‘Official’ here) you must make a choice. Do not go to the 100 year Road but go towards the “Park” and the “Brook”. As you follow this path you will see the remains of Piper's straw house (only the roof and posts remains but the walls were blown in by the wolf.) After you walk past the pig’s house, “Tot” will offer you a resting place. Have a seat. Enjoy the tranquil water in front of you and the abundance of “Luv” over your right shoulder. Now look over your left shoulder and notice the lonely tree in the center of the open field. Go visit the lonely tree and with your back towards the creek look for the 4 trunk tree directly ahead of you. Piper Pig now resides within this tree. (This is a busy area so please be discreet, and put him back carefully. Also beware of poison ivy. A fellow letterboxer noticed this recently).

2. To find Fiddler’s house made from sticks, make your way back to the path and head upstream. Cross back over the bridge and continue back the way you came. When you see ‘Brody Manor’ enter the path that says ‘Do Not Enter’. (Look familiar?). At the next split in the path you will see 2 ‘Do Not Enter’ signs. Since pigs can’t read, they would enter anyway. Follow the path between these signs. Walk through the parking lot towards ‘Area C’. Take this path past the covered picnic area and playground on your right. At the next intersection cross over the path, go straight through the trees toward the creek. You will find a dirt path. Follow this path to your right along the stream until you come to the bridge. Cross over the asphalt path and continue on the dirt path. Follow the dirt path between the 2 benches. Count X paces (one pace equals one footfall. X here will equal the number of benches you past to get here minus 5) from the second bench to arrive at a fork in the path (look at Niagra on your left). Take the right fork here. At the next fork in the road stay to your right and count Y paces (Y equals X times 2) along the path. Look to your right. You will notice 2 large trees that were uprooted when the wolf blew down the stick house. These 2 trees are uprooted in opposite directions and where they meet is where the remains of the stick house was. The box here is located inside the hollowed out trunk at the base of one of these 2 trees.

3. To find the box at Practical Pig’s house of bricks, make your way back to the main black asphalt path and now turn right to cross over the bridge and again head toward the waterfall. As you pass the falls this time, cross over the bridge you see. Immediately after crossing this bridge you will go off the beaten path by turning left to follow the creek. As you head away from the bridge, keeping the creek to your left, stay left at any forks in the road. Follow the trail until you come to a clearing. Continue through this clearing in the same direction. Notice the many bird’s who have made homes for themselves here. You will eventually enter the forest again at the end of this clearing (a rusty post marks your entrance back into the forest). As you enter the forest along the dirt path, if you look to your right, you will see Practical Pig's brick house, which is still standing. Make your way along the trail to the red brick house and you will need to find the special code 22-2. When you see it, face it and walk straight along this new path. Very shortly, you will cross another path (which may turn into a small stream on a rainy day), but continue straight. As you walk straight immediately after the intersection, and up a slight incline, you will walk between 2 large trees on either side of the path. Looking straight ahead on the path will be a large tree on our left that you could touch without leaving the trail. Standing on the trail with your back against this tree, look across the trail. Take 10 steps toward a tree with a large hole in the base that you can see through. The hole within this tree holds Practical Pigs’ box.

Exit Stage Left. How to get back to the car without backtracking? For those not afraid of the Big Bad Wolf, follow this shortcut: Continue on the path. This path is tricky but if you head towards the ball field you are going in the right direction. Exit the forest at the ball field and walk between the 2 baseball fields you see. Head towards the basketball court and playground and continue toward Houston Lane. Head up the hill and make a right onto Stevens Avenue. Make the next left onto Corella Court. At the end of the Court you will see a bridge. Take the bridge over the creek and you are back to where you started.
