***2 May 10 Box was found today by the Box Hunters - FF in almost 5 YEARS! ***

***Box is alive and well as of 3 May, 2006, still patiently awaiting its first finder!***

Petersfield Provincial Park is open from mid-May until mid-October. Although officially closed for the remainder of the season and no facilities and services are provided, visitors are still invited to use the park. The park offers walking trails, a picnic area, informative signs and restroom facilities. Cross-country skiing is popular in the winter. Dogs are permitted on leash. Be a good boxer and clean up after your pooch!

The Park is located on the South Arm, Sydney Harbour, opposite the city of Sydney. From Hwy 125 take exit 5. Travel 4 kms (2.5 mi) to Route 239 (Westmount Road). Turn right and proceed approximately .8 km (.5 mi). The park is on the left hand side, just past the Canadian Coast Guard College entrance (hence the name of the box!).

To the box:

Enter the parking lot and park as close to the northeast corner as possible. Get on the boardwalk and travel past the info board uprights and the flagpole base. When the boardwalk ends, bear to the left onto the gravel PATH. At the Y, bear left. At the next intersection, turn right and follow the path past the ruins. Look for the tribute to someone’s parents. After sitting and admiring the view, continue on the path down the hill and join another path. Mmmm, smell that salt air! Keep on this path past the unclaimed bench. Take the next right. The box is secured inside the base of the 12 ft stump, under some flat rocks and debris.

Once you stamp in and rehide the box well, take some time to walk along the shore. To return to the parking lot, take the path to the left at the bottom of the hill. This path will pass a couple of old springwater wells. Continue on until you reach the inlet. Turn left and follow the path. After crossing the second wooden bridge continue on. At the T junction, turn right and you can stop for a picnic, or continue to the parking lot.

This box is an orphan, so please, if it needs maintenance or a new book, let me know.

IMPORTANT: This is a wetlands area. Mosquito repellant in the spring and summer months is a necessity. Also, there are some low lying areas. Ensure you have good footwear and a change of socks if visiting on wet days or after recent wet weather.

Have fun, eh?
