(7/2008: Sorry we're no longer to check or maintain our boxes. Check the latest status on LBNA prior to hunting it.)

One indispensable item for a family crossing the prairie was the family quilt. These boxes celebrate that time honored connection.

This box is placed at the Prairie center, at 26235 West 135th Street. It is a 300-acre nature preserve of prairie grass and wetland habitat. (http://www.naturalkansas.org/prairie1.htm)

Park in the lot near the old homestead, and pick up a map at the information booth.

After you find this box you can wind your way through the native prarie grasses as you return to your car.

Difficulty: Requires a 15 minute walk one way over gravel and grass paths.
Compass Required: No

Directions:
First find your way to Kantexan's lost box "Lost Texan #3 - KS". Continue on until you reach the main pond. On the far side of the pond, there is a wooden fishing dock.

Not far from a dock there is a path worn in the grass heading east onto the prairie. Walk down this path.

Not far ahead, the path turns sharply east beside a large evergreen tree. If you sneak in on the backside of this tree you will find the box under a rock at its base.

Heading back to your car:
For an enjoyable walk through the prairie, stay on this path as it winds its way alongside the woody windbreak. After a 10 minute walk the trail will end at a metal sign post, turn left and take the path across the open prairie (not alongside the woods). At the top of the hill you will see the parking area off to your right.
