EZ CALF LETTERBOX - 2005 GREAT LAKES LETTERBOX EXCHANGE

AJ’S JOURNAL:

wow! i woke up to a gorgeous morning and decided to run my errands on my bicycle.
after popping a tv dinner in the oven, i start packing my backpack. lets see, got my package to drop off at the army national guard, doglover’s letterbox with some lightweight gardening tools for hiding it. oh yeah, better grab a jacket. you never know what kind of weather we’ll have in wisconsin by the lake. after a pretty decent chicken and mashed potato frozen dinner, i’m on my way.

i turn on to green st heading east and can see all the way down to lake michigan, what a lovely view! i head south on 10th street and keep going until it turns into county LS. just a short jaunt until i hit silver creek park on the left hand side where i will be dropping off my package at the army national guard. no, don’t start at this park, however if you bring your discs and you’ve got the time, silver creek has an excellent frisbee golf course. after fixing my bike chain that came off during an overzealous gear change, i’m back on my journey. i head north past the cow. the really big cow at the cedar crest ice cream shop, and ride into downtown. after i put my half hour in at curves, i’m ready to hide the box. yay! i’m so excited as this is my very first ’plant’! so i’m on my way, heading west.

i bike to the playgroun that the community built, oh shoot, i hope you don’t miss it. park in the park parking lot - hee hee. this area is perfect for all ages. you will find a paved road heading down a steep hill just a little north of the entrance. follow down, yes you can ride your bike, the road and you will see a crushed limestone path on the left hand side running along the river. watch out for the guy feeding the geese. a wooden bridge takes you over some mushy areas and soon you will be heading up a steep incline, that’s a hill for the layman. at the crest of the hill you will be able to see the exertrail. keep going along the trail and check out the gazebo, the second one that you’ve passed on this hike. careful if you’re allergic to bees as you check out the beautiful view. continue along the trail in an easterly direction, cross the road where the limestone path picks up on the right hand side of the gravel road. what is that? it looks like a medieval torture device, but its actually a bench type ’crunch’ machine. might as well give your abs a workout while you’re here. continuing on you can see a train overpass up ahead in the distance. don’t worry you don’t have to hike that far. you come to a post sticking up out of the ground between the trail and the gravel road. stop, look to your right. look for a good way to negotiate the hill. be careful, it’s steep. once your on the top of the hill crawl until you are pretty much directly across from the post. you will be able to sit comfortably at the top of the hill, without having to lean over the steep edge, to stamp in. you will see a small piece of railroad tie next to a group of small trees. underneath is the letterbox!
