5/14/2016 Stopped by Rocky Gorge yesterday. Box and contents were soaked. Have removed box and may replace at a later date.

Replaced box 7/5/13. The Phoenix( or my best attempt at carving a phoenix) has risen!

This box was thought up by my son Ben. When he was little, this was his first "hike" in the White Mountains. It's an easy 1 mile loop around a beautiful little pond.

Rocky Gorge is a scenic area along the Kancamagus Highway. It's about 10 miles west of Rt 16 in Conway.

Park in the Rocky Gorge Parking lot. Go down the sidewalk and over the bridge. Follow the path up the hill until you see the pond. If you go down to the pond outlook, look toward your right across the pond. Your destination is across the pond to your far right toward the swampy area.

There is a sign for the Loop Around the Pond. Go counter clockwise around the loop. Follow the loop to your right, up and down a hill or two and over a small bridge and come to a sign that says "Loop Around the Pond". Take this left. Follow to the first boulder on your right. The boulder has a fallen tree on top of it. There is a tree that grows out of the boulder. Between the tree and the boulder there is a large root. The box is behind the root. Please rehide and replace the stones.

The area can be crowded and buggy. Most people stay near the river and gorge. On 7/5/13 we were the only ones that ventured past the pond outlook. Also, going clockwise around the loop, there are a couple of trees down that need to be crawled over or through. Right near the letter box there was a tree across the trail that you could do the limbo under.
