Doornbos Heritage Park '76

"Nederland's heritage is deeply rooted in the Dutch ancestry which gives the town its name. Nederland was officially placed on the map on December 24, 1897. It was an adventuresome spirit and desire for a better life which originally brought Dutch settlers to this site in 1897. That same spirit is found today in this friendly town of an estimated population of 17,500 citizens which is easily accessed by Highways 69, 96 and 287. It is conveniently located off 1-10, between Beaumont and Port Arthur. Situated within a metropolitan area and only 100 miles from Houston, Nederland offers the peaceful life-style of a small community with the cultural, social, and economic advantages of a city many times its size." -link

"This park is the hub of all Parks Department activity. The Recreation Building, located at the front of the park, houses the office of the Parks Director and the recreation staff. Much of the park's use is centered around the man-made reflecting pond that is inhabited by many types of fresh-water game fish and migratory waterfowl. A 1/2-mile walking path encircles the pond. Recent enhancements include new playground equipment, new outdoor basketball goals, a 450-square-foot sun deck, and concrete bulkheads around the edge of the pond." -link

I used to live a block away from Doornbos park. I spent many days during the summer playing at the park and swimming in the pool.

Directions:
From Houston, take I-10 east for 79.8 miles
Take exit #849 onto US-69 SOUTH toward PORT ARTHUR
Take the TX-347 exit to NEDERLAND and go 6 miles
Turn right onto AVENUE H for almost a mile
Arrive at Doornbos park on the left, Park next to the recreation center

Forgive me, I'm not great at coming up with fun clues as this is my FIRST box to place and clues to give.

Diffuculty, an easy stroll.

Park in the larger lot and you'll see something bright
A fountain, gazeebo and ducks that are white
Go to the gazeebo, not it's original home, you see
The next clue will lead you to where it used to be
Look to the nortwest for Doornbos' own porch
It's a nice sundeck, be careful not to scorch

Go chase the ducks, have the goose chase you
But find my letterbox is what you must do
Frolick to the sundeck and feed the ducks and the fish
Turn around, take 10 paces if my letterbox is what you wish
Face right along the path and take 10 paces from the deck
I hope you aren't confused, but if you are, yell "what the heck?!"

Stop before the first tree and turn to the right again
Take 7 paces more and stop unless getting wet is your plan
Turn right again and squat like a duck
You'll find my box, have fun and good luck!!!
