TERRAIN:
Mostly flat, easy walking; some climbing in the playground.

DIRECTIONS:
From Houston take I-10 East to Beaumont. Exit Hwy 69 to Port Arthur. Exit Hwy 347 to Nederland...mind your speed, there's always at least one HP on this stretch of road. Exit left onto Hwy 366 to Port Neches and keep straight. After the first light you pass through (Nederland Ave.) 366 changes to Magnolia. Turn left onto Merriman (the third light after Nederland Ave.). *From August-May this street is really busy from 3:30PM-4:00PM due to the high school* You'll pass by Port Neches High School, a fire station, and a police station. At the first stop turn Right onto Grigsby. Take the first left onto Rachford and park in front of Tugboat Island Playground. *This is one of the coolest playgrounds I've ever been on, but keep in mind that it closes at dusk*

"Ninety-five years ago, a community on the banks of the Neches River known as Grigsby’s Bluff became Port Neches with the birth of the petroleum industry in the area. But the actual history of the city goes back more than 160 years to 1834 when Joseph Grigsby, Port Neches’ first settler, came here with his family and established a community which he named after himself.Other families came to Grigsby’s Bluff in the 1840’s and 1850’s, and by 1860 census records reveal that 80 persons were residents of the growing community. The Civil War found the city the site of Confederate Fort Gribsby, guarding the Neches River for 9 months after the defenses of Sabine Pass were abandoned." link

"Historic Port Neches City Park provides public boat ramps, picnic facilities, lighted tennis courts and basketball areas in addition to a modern swimming pool and a unique children’s play land call Tugboat Island." link

CLUES:
Go on into Tugboat Island and have some fun. When you're ready to start your search climb to the highest point in the playground and look out. The stars, moon, and tree point the way. If you've packed a lunch, your next stop will be perfect...just watch for roving gangs of squirrels :)

From here, look NE and head to the White Cross. If you're headed the right way you may as well stop and say hello to gnarled old M+M.

From here you have a nice view of the Neches River, but you're not done yet. Follow the right arm of the cross to the old houses. Instead of forging straight ahead, turn and walk down Dianna.

Follow the fence all the way around to the Big metal dome. The box is under the E corner of the building.
