Placed for the Fall 2002 Mystery Gathering at Ninigret National Wildlife Refuge.

MISSING

PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN GREEN INK PAD

Difficulty: Both the hike & clues are easy. Walk on flat crushed gravel trail approximately 15 minutes round trip. This box is stroller and wheelchair accessable.

Background: Ninigret National Wildlife Refuge is one of five national wildlife refuges in Rhode Island. It consists of 409 acres of diverse upland and wetland habitats. The refuge, formally part of the Charlestown Naval Auxiliary landing Field, provides visitors with over four miles of hiking trails. The refuge borders on Rhode Island's largest salt pond, Ninigret Pond.

Driving Directions:

From US Rt 1 north bound take the Ninigret Wild Life Refuge entrance just past the Willows Motel (do NOT take the Ninigret Park entrance.) This puts you in a parking area on the western end of the refuge and is not attached to Ninigret Park.

Clues:
Pick up the Foster Cove Loop Trail just to the right of the information kiosk. After a brief walk (5 minutes) you will see a bench overlooking Foster Cove on the right. (This is a great place to stop & have lunch.) Approximately 25 steps BEFORE you reach this bench on the left is a faint path. The treasure you seek is behind the large tree on the right side of this faint path. Return the way you came or continue walking around this short Loop Trail to return to your car.
