This box has been pulled until I can find a more permanent place for it to reside in Sullivan.

This is a memorial letterbox in honor of my father, the late Lt. Col. Gale C. Coil. This box went up today on 5/21/05 and will stay up through Memorial Day and past his birthday on 6/9/05. I will probably pull this box on the Saturday after, so 6/11/05. There are only a couple things I ask, since this is located in the local cemetery.

1) Be respectful for the graves in the area and try not to walk over the graves themselves. There is a narrow path between rows, and are denoted since servicemen have a nameplate at one end of the grave and a headstone(in most cases) at the other end.

2) It's not required, but if you show up and stamp in, pay your respects and if possible leave a flower(fake is fine) or a flag with the service plate.

Find your way to Sullivan, IL (if you can't find it or need directions let me know). IL route 121 runs East/West through the city and is known as Jackson St. Take this to the stoplight(1 of the only 2 lights in the county) and turn south onto Hamilton St. Take this to the next stoplight(the only other light in the county) and turn left (East) onto Water St. When the road curves, continue straight into Greenhill Cemetery. At the entrance, you have the choice of left or right, take the right road and continue down and across the bridge. Immediately after the bridge turn left and head towards Section H. When you get to the fork again, turn left and then take the next right. This will place you with graves on both sides. Go down this road until you see Selock on your left and Lane on your right, stop here. On the left side, walk down the row with Selock to your left. You'll be looking for Lt. Col. Gale Croughan Coil on your right side, he should be in the 4th plot and have a hanging basket with red and purple petunias. The box is in the plant along the edge.

I know it's kind of a long way to go for one box, but never fear, my wife has planted a number of other boxes in a local campground (Kami Kasuri and Lance's Fish Tank). There's also a nice little restaurant to eat at in town on the Square called Sister's (shameless plug). Thanks for your help in creating this tribute to my father.
