*A personal note for all: This box isn't originally mine, I have recently adopted the box and will be maintaining it from now on. Unfortunately, the box I adopted was in very bad disrepair and the original stamp was missing. I am very fond of the old stamp, but having trouble finding the same one (original stamp was store bought). I have temporarily replaced the stamp with someone, who can watch over this box until I can find the old one again. Making this a great box to grab, as you never know how long this stamp will be here!

Planted by Parlor Rock.

Few people today know that right in the center of a wooded park in beautiful Trumbull, CT is the site of one of the country's earliest amusement parks. Called Parlor Rock Park, it was built on the grounds of a popular, local (secret) watering hole. In 1877 the Housatonic Railroad Company bought 13 acres in Northern Trumbull with a plan to develop it into an amusement park. Accessible only by train, the park offered visitors picnic grounds, swimming in a man-made lake, waterfalls, gazebos, croquet, a carousel, refreshment stands, skating rink, boating, photo gallery, walking trails and dance hall. Later, in the winter of 1888, a toboggan sled ride was added to enable year-round use. Parlor Rock park was also the first use of electricity in Trumbull. Although, the park was closed and dismantled long ago, you can still visit the site as it is now a small wooded park with walking trails in it. For those that are interested in learning more about Parlor Rock Park and to view pictures of the former park, please visit the Trumbull Historical Society site at: http://www.trumbullhistory.org/written/prock.shtml#AT

Here is how to find the box:
Parlor Rock Park on Whitney Rd. in Trumbull CT.
Whitney Rd. can be accessed from Main St. (Rte. 111) in Trumbull (Exit 48 off Merritt Parkway, heading North into Trumbull).

For those headed North from the Merritt Pkwy., Whitney Ave. is around three miles down on right (just past Luigi's bakery). The entrance to the park is about half way down the hill on Whitney Ave., on the left, if you access it from Main St. There is a sign marking the entrance. You can park directly across the street on what appears to be a small service rd.

Enter the park and take the walking path, pass the wooden sign on right.
Go to the end of the boulders on the right and take the first path on the right.
Take an immediate left at the fork onto the walking path.
When the path turns, stay parallel with the highway.
The path will slope down, leading under the highway overpass.
Just before the underpass, near the stream, the path splits. Bear to the right and follow the path straight, then bear down hill to the left, towards the stream.
When near the stream, boulders will be towards the right.
Look for whitish, grey quartz like boulder (pyramid shape) sticking up on the right. With this boulder on your right and the stream on your left, briefly pass the boulder and ahead will be a ledge near the stream. Go towards the flat ledge jetting out (directly across stream is cement ruin with metal poles). Stand on flat part of ledge that jets out furthest from slope. Look underneath smaller ledge just above the ledge you are standing on. Search for box.
