Directions:
Take Highway 520 to its eastern terminus, as it empties out into the town of Redmond to become Avondale Road. Turn right in 1.25 miles onto Novelty Hill Road. In 2.4 miles, turn left into the park across from 218th Avenue Northeast.

Notes:
This lush mixed forest of deciduous and coniferous trees was logged about 100 years ago. The noise of birds and frogs dominates the forest, and the preserve's many beavers have constructed several ponds. Coyote, deer, black bear, pileated woodpeckers, wood ducks and many other species of birds have also been seen in the preserve.

Restrooms, water-fountain and picnic tables near parking area. No pets are permitted (except guide dogs). Horses and bikes permitted on designated trails. Park closes at dusk.

Treefrog Loop Letterbox

Clues - Easy. Straight forward directions.

Trek - Very Easy. Path is wheelchair-accessible (paved), but the box is not.

Time to complete - 15 minutes

Weather Factors - Great year round. This can even be done in a good Seattle rain (dress accordingly of course)

Kids and Dogs - Sorry No dogs. Easy walk for kids. Educational 'signage' along the way.

Clues:
(Note: This is a very short walk. Take your time and enjoy nature around you.... stop and look for squirrels and birds in the brush... take a deep breath and enjoy that smell of green-growing-things. You'll get to this box before you know it.)

* Begin at the Treefrog Loop trailhead (near the SE corner of the parking lot)

* At each intersection along the path, veer right.

* Stop at "The Living Pond" observation area. Take some time to enjoy the view.

* Back track up the path, take the first right, and cross the foot bridge

* Stop at the "Natures Bed and Breakfast" sign

* The letterbox is hidden behind the tree to your right (as you face the sign). Hidden under a piece of wood.

Please remember to hide the box well when you are done.

* Continue down the path, crossing another footbridge. Take a right, follow path back to the parking lot.

Trout Loop Letterbox

Clues - Easy. Straight forward directions.

Trek - Easy. Typical dirt hiking path, with small manageable inclines.

Time to complete - 20 minutes

Weather Factors - Could be a bit muddy in the rain. Plan accordingly.

Kids and Dogs - Sorry No dogs. Easy walk for kids. Educational 'signage' along the way.

Clues:

* Begin at the Trout Loop trailhead (near the SW corner of the parking lot, near the restrooms)

* At the "Coniferous Forest" sign, go right.

* Follow the path for a fair distance

* When you see the "Indian Plum", "Red Alder" & "Logging Evidence" signs you are nearing the letterbox

* Continue down the path, and down 4 steps

* Look for a large log, parallel to the path.... perfect for sitting or leaning against.

* Take a break at the log. Listen to the stream gurgle, and make sure the coast is clear.

* Look across the path, and you'll see the other half of this log

* Carefully look behind the log. The box is hidden among the ferns, under a piece of wood

Please remember to hide the box well when you are done.

* Follow the path a short distance further, to return to the parking area.
