Trexler’s Tatanka

30 minutes, 1 miles RT, 200 ft climb

Since 1906, the Game Preserve - located north of Allentown/Lehigh Valley, PA - has entertained and educated more than five million people inside and outside Pennsylvania.
Founded by General Harry C. Trexler, a local industrialist, the Game Preserve played a significant role in saving the North American Bison from extinction.

Today, almost one hundred years later, the Game Preserve is still alive and well.

Its’ website is:

http://www.gamepreserve.org/

and you can find maps and directions there.

There is an admission charge to enter the zoo, but not to go to the nature trail.

To find the letterbox, locate the Nature Trail and begin by crossing a small bridge over a small creek. Just before you get to a large bridge over Jordan creek, go right, following the trail uphill. This trail may be slippery when wet and does get slightly steep here and there. Just before the top, you’ll begin to see dark blue blazes on the trees. You will come to a 5-tree along the trail, on the left. From this point, go to the 3rd blue blazed tree on the left hand side. 10 paces further to 2 fallen trees off parallel at 45 deg from the trail. One of these has fallen on the trail, but the one that is about 15 feet off the trail on your right contains holes where branches used to be. Find this mini-box inside one. You may need to wiggle it as it was a tight fight to get it in.
