This letterbox is placed at the Iatt Lake Recreation Area, or Watchable Wildlife Viewing Area on the Catahoula District of the Kisatchie National Forest. If you are traveling from Dry Prong, take Hwy 123 west out of town. Immediately you will see the intersection with Hwy 122 and also a sign for the Iatt Lake Rec Area. Continue on Hwy 122 for about 9 miles until you reach the entrance for the Recreation Area. It is open from dawn to dusk. Park in the parking lot and take a walk on the boardwalk. Enjoy the view of the lilypads in the summer or the beautiful fall cypress trees in the cooler months. It is a special place for water bird viewing as well. Relax and sit for awhile and enjoy the view. When you leave the boardwalk you will see a picnic area with a few tables and grills. If you go to the picnic area you will see several large trees that have been cut and are laying down. Walk back about 150 feet from the picnic area staying closer to the lake than the road. You will see two large stumps close together (within 4 feet). Between those two stumps is a pile of slash debris. Under all the debris is the letterbox. Be sure to bury it better than you found it, and enjoy the discovery of a new special place.
