This box is located in the Kenneth D. Welch Outdoor Learning Center for Katy I.S.D. This is a great place for hikes and ttaking kids to see some of the many animals K.I.S.D. keeps for school trips. The actual outside centter is open year round except for the buildings.

Driving directons:
Go west on I-10 to Katy, take the Pin Oak exit near the Katy Mills Mall, go past Pin Oak on the feeder to FM1463. Take a right on FM1463 towards downtown Katy and the high school. Look for a sign on the left for Kenneth D. Welch Outdoor Learning Center on the left about 1/4 of a mile past I-10 and just south of the high school. Drive past a number of school buildings to the end of the large parking area.

To the box:
From the entrance, go past the first building and past the barn full of animals. When you get to a choice of ways, ttake the way to the pond(there should be a sign). Be sure to notice the homing pigeons on your left. Go down to the pond and say hello to our little duckie friends(extra points if you can figure out the species) before heading to the dock on your right. Before you reach the dock, go onto the flat boardwalk and count 70 boards(including the skinny ones). Look left to a many trunked Yupine(is that spelled right?) Holly. Box is wedged between the many trunks covered by sticks. Be discreet and cover well before you leave. Checkmate!
