Where is it - Gone! Vandalized. Reported Missing 8/12/05, confirmed 8/27/05. RIP Bring em'Down Buzz. Hope you bit their nasty little fingers...
Where was it - Bakers Meadow.
Reservation Rd., off Rte 133 Andover, MA. Essex County.
For more information, visit http://www.avisandover.org/bakers.htm
Park - Along Cutler Rd., where Reservation Rd. takes a hard left, next to entrance of West Parish Garden Cemetary.
Entrance to the trail - From the entrance to West Parish Garden Cemetary, walk down the hill, east on Reservation Rd., for less than 100 yards. Take the marked trail on the right, just beyond the AVIS sign (there is another AVIS Reservation entrance on the opposite side of the road).
Terrain - Easy, but undulating.
Distance - Less than 1 mile. Leisurely 40 min round-trip.
Stamp - Hand-carved.
Confirmed Species - This is a great wildlife viewing area. In only a few visits, we've seen Three young beavers, geese, several species of ducks, muskrat, and close-ups of Great Blue heron and osprey. The largemouth bass fishing is good too, though angling access is muddy and challenging.
Difficulty - This can be a tough box for beginners. The beavers and AVIS have left their signs, in the same place, on the trail just prior to "leave (ing) the main trail here....".
BUSY BEAVERS
Follow the trail
down towards the pond
Bridge in the woods
and another beyond
Along the water path
you should go
Look sharp for trees
felled to and fro
Round a bend
one more bridge over a stream
Shortly on the left
their lodge can be seen
Leave the main trail here
and take the path up the hill
Stop at the opening in the stone wall
and do your best beaver call
Right 45 steps in the wall
a small pine does grow
Count 1, 2, 3 stones beyond
he's hiding down low...
Return trip - Once your search is complete, you can go back the way you came, or continue along the trail, over another bridge, then over a spillway, as it will eventually come out further down Reservation Rd. Take a left to return to your car. This is a narrow road. Please watch for traffic when walking.
