Difficulty – easy. Distance – about 1/2 mile one way.

This is our very first planted box. We camped here to celebrate 6foot9’s birthday and thought we should plant a box. ThimbleCat used to spend a lot of time at this camp years ago when it was Peach Creek Ranch Girl Scout Camp. It was the place where girls waded in the shallow creek, sang songs, and learned to ride horses. Now the whole family can have happy memories of this great camp

Directions to the Park:
Lake Sam Houston State Park is located at 22031 Baptist Encampment Road in New Caney, TX. To reach the park from Houston, take US Highway 59 north to the New Caney exit, FM 1485; travel east 2 miles to Baptist Encampment Road, turn south for 1.5 miles to the park entrance. Open 7 days per week, year round. 8am-10pm for day use. Park has no access to Lake Sam Houston. Day only fees: Adults is $3 and children 12 & under are free

Letterbox Clues:
Enter the Park & park your car in the parking lot and proceed down the main road to the headquarters (follow the signs) to pay your fee. Continue walking down the main road (called Forest Trail on the park map.) You will see the Lazy Creek Cottage Lodge on your left. Keep going down the road. You will pass the entrance to the Magnolia Trail on your right. Cross over Peach Creek via the big bridge. After you cross the bridge continue along the main road following the signs to the hiking/bicycle trail. (The restrooms are off to your left if you need to make a pitstop.) Believe that sign you see that says “Poisonous snakes exist in this park”. They do – especially copperheads. After the main road curves slightly to the right you’ll see the sign pointing to the hiking/bicycle trail on your left. The trail begins between the pool and the old red barn.

Enter the trail and cross the angled wooden bridge. Continue until it intersects another large trail (the Peach Creek Loop). Cross this larger trail. You will see a hiking trail sign on your right and a bench on your left. From the trail sign, walk 20 paces. There will be a large tree on your right. The letterbox is on the other side (SSE) of the tree from the direction you came between roots. It is covered with leaves & twigs. Remember that snakes call this park home, and poke around with a stick to find the box. Please re-close box tightly and re-hide well since it is right off the trail. Thanks.
