***The box was still there! Collected the box in Oct. 2020. The logbook was full and had gotten damp. Will be replacing the box with updated clues (trail landmarks have changed in 15 years) very soon.

This is the first of our Motorcyclist Series. We love to incorporate riding with our letterboxing hobby. It's a great excuse to go on some scenic rides! So, this series will take you to some of our favorite places to ride to. Since we own 9, yes 9, vintage Honda motorcycles, we just had to start off with the Honda Red Rider. (We recommend red ink!)

This box is located in Gambrills State Park. We usually ride up alternate 40 to Braddock Heights on the way to the park. (We love to hit the wide sweeping curves at high speeds!)
Once in park, head to where the Tea Room is located. To the right is the Middletown Overlook. Quite an amazing view! From the overlook, take the black-blazed trail, heading south. After you go down all the log steps, make sure you keep to the high road. After a short walk, you will pass the large overhanging rock just below the Tea Room. On the other side of the Tea Room are some power lines overhead. There is also another trail coming in on the left, but keep heading straight. From underneath the power lines, go about 26 paces. You'll come to a tree with a black blaze on it, just to your right. About 5 paces off the trail, to your right (140 degrees), is a large flat rock about 5 feet across. It juts up out of the ground and forms a shelf on the other side. Under the shelf is the box. A flat rock is wedged on top. Please be discreet, as you are close to the trail and the Tea Room. Watch for spiders and other crawly things when you reach under the rock! You can continue down the trail to the parking lot.
