**** BOX MISSING ****

The Village of Homer Glen is located just 11 miles southwest of Chicago in Will County, Illinois and at 22 square miles, it is Will County’s third largest municipality. It is bisected by three major creeks that are home to a multitude of wildlife such as beavers, coyotes, deer, and woodchucks. The gently rolling terrain is dotted with prairie grasses, stands of trees, and cultivated fields.
Originally settled in 1836, the Village was incorporated in 2001 with a “Green Vision”. Volunteers crafted the Village’s first Mission Statement and Core Values, including safeguarding areas of significant natural value, promoting the re-establishment of native vegetation, protecting and managing water resources, and providing wildlife corridors as fundamental environmental protections.
Within the corporate boundaries of Homer Glen are two square miles of Will County Forest Preserves. Messenger Woods Nature Preserve is one of Will County’s oldest and most unusual forest preserves. Visitors to the preserve can enjoy one of the few remaining forests in northeastern Illinois that have not been altered by grazing, cutting, farming, or development. Spring Creek Greenway Forest Preserve is also located in Homer Glen, and offers a 3.2-mile equestrian trail that winds through wooded areas and prairie. The trail can also be used by hikers and cross-country skiers. The trail takes visitors past Spring Creek which abounds with much wildlife including beaver, egrets, herons, muskrat, and fox.

Directions:
From 159th Street, turn south on South Bell Road. Drive past the church, past the fire department, and turn left into Messenger Marsh.
From the parking lot take the trail leading toward the woods, and then take the left trail. Follow this trail for a while as it curves around. At the fork in the road, follow the trail to the right.
The trail will curve around and you will have nice views of the marsh. Keep an eye out for the critters that live in and around the marsh.
The trail will eventually turn away from the marsh, and you will come to a “T” in the trail. Continue straight ahead into the stand of trees in front of you, and on the right hand side, about 3 or 4 steps before you get to the “bridge”, there will be a large rock just off the trail. Reach over the top to the back side of the rock, being careful of the thorny berry branches, and the box will be just under the edge of the bottom of the rock.
On your walk back, you can take the trail to the right at the T, and this will complete the other half of the trail loop you started on.

This is a small box, no ink.
Recommended Color: Green
