The trail to Wauna Point starts at Eagle Creek in the Gorge. It is about 3.7 miles round trip. The view is incredible - the Columbia River of course, Bonneville Dam, Hamilton Mountain, Mount Adams, Beacon Rock - bring your camera.
From Portland take I-84 to the Eagle Creek exit, the exit after the Bonneville Dam exit. Park near the picnic area if you can. Cross the wooden bridge and follow the signs to Wauna Trail. At .9 miles trail splits - keep going up - going straight ahead is Trail 400 that traverses much of the Gorge.
At the top, there are 2 markers with 3 dates between them. Write down the last 2 digits of each of the dates. Add the two largest numbers - this equals A. Divide the third by 3 (round to a whole) - this equals B. From the Point, walk A+B steps back down to find a rock on your left. Buried to its right is National Trails Day, June 4, 2005.
