This letterbox is the forth in our series of Favorite Picnic Places.

To find this letterbox on the mainland side of the Cape Cod Canal, you can walk or bike. Start at the railroad bridge parking lot in Buzzards Bay, and head down the bike trail toward the Bourne Bridge.

Watch for light pole #355. The number might be hard to read from the bike trail so you may have to stretch around to the canal side of the pole to see it clearly.

From this point, watch on your left for a dirt parking area behind the fense. Step over the fence here and head for the dirt road on the right. You should see the remains of the railroad tracks as you exit the parking area.

From the start of the road, count 4 ceder trees that are growing within arms reach of the road. Don't count any that you can't touch from the road.

Behind that ceder, take 15 steps to a large oak tree. Search under a pile of sticks and leaves for the letterbox. Please rehind the box carefully since we've already had one letterbox gone missing along the canal.

Our favorite picnic place is not this trail. If you continue heading east, you'll soon come to a few picnic tables and an RV camping area. There are several great places to enjoy a picnic lunch here, either at the tables or under a tree.

While you're in the area, you might want to bring the clues along to "Stop and Smell the Flowers" series since those letterboxes are nearby.
