Kayaker’s Dream
Difficulty: Easy
Distance: Less than 1/4 mile roundtrip
Location: Point Pleasant Community Park

Point Pleasant Community Park is located near the intersection of Point Pleasant Pike and Tohickon Hill Road in the village of Point Pleasant. Be aware that parking is very limited.
When high water conditions exist, Tohickon Creek offers a challenging course for closed-deck canoes and kayaks. The three mile journey from Ralph Stover State Park to Point Pleasant is graded as a good class III whitewater experience. At the end of March and the beginning of November, there are planned whitewater releases from Lake Nockamixon. For information, call Delaware Canal State Park at 610-982-5560 or email delawarecanalsp@state.pa.us

Clues:

“I love this little park,” Jeremiah yelled as he ran right out of the car. He ran to the right, towards the underside of the bridge. Pointing across the Geddes Creek, he said, “See that big fishing hole? My Dad and I caught a creek chub there last year. Sometimes, he lets me swim in the hole when it’s hot outside. But always watch for leeches, I’m afraid of them. Can I go swimming now?”
“No, Jeremiah, we can’t swim today. Did you know that people come from all around to use their kayaks here?”
“What do they do?” he asked.
“They like to paddle their kayaks downstream in fast water. It’s fun” I replied, wondering if Jeremiah knew what a kayak was.
“Oh, I saw that on TV,” he said.
“How about we look at this monument instead?” I said.
“There was a mommy duck here last year, I wonder where she is now? I don’t want to look at the monument, let’s walk upstream instead.” Jeremiah starts running around, as only a seven year old can do. Picking up sticks, fighting imaginary monsters and ninjas, picking up rocks and throwing them into the edge of the water, he’s a boy and full of energy.
“What’s this metal thing?” he asks, “It’s like a pipe or a something.”
“I’m not sure, Jeremiah, but it looks important" I wasn’t sure what it was, I still don’t know.
“Hey, a path!!! Who is Chief Running Deer?” He yells as I see him running off ahead of me.
“Jeremiah, look at this. It’s an American Toad. I wonder what he’s doing here. Oh, and look at this it’s spicebush. Crush the leaves, it smells so good. Your Grandpop Rick loves that smell. Hey, I found a salamander.” Jeremiah doesn’t notice any of these things, he’s too busy running ahead of me.
"Jeremiah, look at this neat snag tree in the middle of the path. It is at least 25 feet tall! You can see the woodpecker holes in it. Jeremiah, Jeremiah...?"
I find Jeremiah sitting on top of a low rock on the left side of the path. “I was waiting for you, where is the toad?” “I put him back there, you can find him if you want,” I said, now regretting that I didn’t bring the toad along. “No, that’s okay, I found something even cooler!” Jeremiah grabs my hand and we are running on the path. About 30 steps on the trail, Jeremiah looks at me. “Here where the path makes a slight S, doesn’t it look like an S, I thought it did, right here, look to the left. See that fallen log? It has a rock in its roots. Isn’t that cool?” It is cool, I thought, wondering why he was so enamored by a rock. “But that isn’t the coolest thing,” he says, with a sheepish grin on his face.
“Do you see another tree on the right, with a wierd hole in it?” he asked.
“Look, right there, see that neat hole, in that tree? I bet I could put things inside the hole, like army men or pokemons or... ." His voice trails off into a world of imagination. "Aunt Peshie, how about you sit on the fallen log while I play with the tree?"
I sat on the fallen log, a bit exhausted with a seven year olds enthusiasm. Sitting at the root-end of the fallen log, I noticed a pile of stones on the far side of the log.
As I was sitting there, the pile of stones just did not look right. I started dismantling the pile. "What is that!" Jeremiah exclaimed. "Aunt Peshie, what did you find?Look, inside, what is it?” he said. “Can we take it home?”
“No, let’s leave it here, so other people can find it too!” I said, not quite sure what we had found.
“Okay, now where is that toad?” Jeremiah is now running off further down the trail.
What did we find, I am still not sure, maybe you can find it and let me know.
