Turn right onto Grove Street and proceed 0.4 miles to the Franklin State Forest, Southern New England Trunkline Trail sign on the left side of the road. Park in the lot across the street.

No admission fee; no facilities; dogs are allowed; open dawn to dusk. Caution: Watch for motor-cross bikes on this trail, they are not allowed but still use the trail.

CLUES:
The Pads, Paws and Claws letterbox is located off the Franklin State Forest, Southern New England Trunkline Trail located in Franklin, MA. This adventure will take approximately 40 minutes in total.

Enter the trail and walk past the wooden message board. Continue straight on the trail for a while and think of what it must have been like to take a train from Boston or New York to this remote rural town in the mid 1800’s. The trunk line trail is the obsolete NE & NY railroad line.

Keep straight and the path will narrow. You will begin to see some houses on either side of the trail. You will meet a cross road, which is paved. On the right you will see Wadsworth Farm, the site of the old Wadsworth Train Depot.

Go around the gates and cross the paved road and continue straight on the dirt trail. Continue on this path and start looking on the right hand side. There is a small telephone pole labeled AT&T buried cable #146 on the right. From this pole, take 10 paces forward and you will see a path on the right. Continue up this small path, uphill approximately 15 paces. Do not walk past the rusty fence. You will see a grouping of rocks on the right. The LB is located behind the first rock buried under a smaller flatter rock.
