University of Minnesota Goldie Gopher

Start your hunt at the intersection of the road that runs along the east bank of the Great River and the road named after a famous Cambridge, MA ivy-league school. Be sure to bring quarters since the only available parking is metered.

Hike down the zigzag staircase to the river. Be careful not to slip! But if you do, don't panic, there is an emergency room right across the street. At the bottom of the stairs walk across the lawn to the pathway parallel to the one you're standing on.

Turn right down the paved path for 44 steps. Look to your left and head into the woods towards the river for a short distance until you come across three giant brothers (if you're standing in water you’ve gone to far). Be very quiet, one is sleeping.

Goldie is taking a nap in his gopher hole at the feet of the sleeping giant. If you stand on the sleeping giant with your back to his brothers, Goldie's gopher hole is under the foot on your right. He may be hiding under a rock to keep from being seen.

You’ve found him! Give a little cheer, “M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A, Minnesota, Minnesota, yay gophers!” Be sure to re-hide him well when you’re finished, there is a lot of traffic down here. Don’t forget to walk down to the bank and check out the great view of downtown Minneapolis.

Recommended colors: Maroon and Gold of course.
