Directions: From Seattle, drive 32 miles east on Interstate 90 to exit 32 (436th Avenue Southeast). Turn left (north) over the freeway and drive one-half mile to North Bend Way. Turn left (west) and in a quarter mile, turn right (north) on Mount Si Road. After a third of a mile, cross the river and turn left on 434th Street. The small parking lot and trailhead are on the left. Overflow parking is available on the shoulder of North Bend Way. The trailhead is a quarter mile down the street to the west. It's in a residential neighborhood. Be quiet, keep pets leashed and do not park along the road.
Note: it took us about ½ an hour from Kirkland/Redmond to get there.

User groups: Hikers; dogs allowed. No horses or mountain bikes. No wheelchair facilities.
Permits: No permits required. Free parking and access.

Trail Info: The trail weaves through a forested area below several massive rock cliffs (one of which stretches directly and disconcertingly over your head) to impressive views at the 1,575-foot summit. The grade is a killer at the start and again at the finish, where the hike occasionally turns into a scramble over steep rock. In between, the walk is a pleasant, easy stroll through mossy forest marked by intriguing rock formations. Camera and Binoculars wouldn’t be amiss here. And LOTS of water –this was a 2 bottle hike for me.

Trail data: This is a 5-mile roundtrip hike.
1,200 feet gained in elevation.
The top of Little Mt. Si (pronounced sigh) is 1,576 feet above sea level.

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/getaways/121296/hike12.html good info on the general trail – tho I’d think twice about taking little kids up at all – some of that scrambling over rocks is a bit much for them in my mind.

Clues to the box:
From the parking lot, follow the signs to the top of Little Mt. Si. The trail snakes through a beautiful forest and past rock faces used by rock climbers. There’s a bench about ½ way up, dedicated to a fellow mountain climber who never came down from his last Mt. Everest climb.

Once near the top, you’ll see a small lookout – what I refer to as the “lower” lookout. (Danny's box is at what I refer to as the “upper” lookout”, so you can hit both of us at the same time! Check Danny’s box out here: http://www.letterboxing.org/BoxView.php?boxnum=9581&boxname=Ah,_Little_Mt._Si!)

Specific Clues:
• Once you’ve reached the “lower lookout”, after taking the time to take in the view – and you can see part of the Mt. Si trail from here (moderngypsy has 2 boxes up there, *not* for the faint of heart) – turn towards the top of the mountain and start up the trail to the “upper lookout”. A few yards along the trail, edged by young trees on the left and rocks on the right, you’ll come to a small spur trail that heads east.
• As you stand between a 5 foot tall rock on your right and a 10-12 foot boulder on your right, you can see this trail to your left.
• Walk 6 big steps down the small trail.
• On your right, about thigh height is a small ledge with a fern that grows out of the rock covering it.
• Under the fern you will find White Oak from Rhode Island.

Part of an exchange amongst a bunch of us lady letter-boxers, this one comes from Laurette in Rhode Island. I was just the legs that took it there.
