This box is on Prudence Island. I strongly suggest bringing your bike, it is beautiful!

"Prudence Island is located in the center of Narragansett Bay. The closest point to the mainland is at the northern end of the island which is one and one-half miles southeast of Warwick Neck and one and three-quarter miles southwest of Popasquash Point, Bristol. Over 700 acres on the northern end of the island are included in the component."

Although you will need to pay for a ferry, go here for more info on the island and ferry schedule/cost: http://www.nbnerr.org/recrandaccesshome.htm

Island maps are provided at both landings for the ferry, although every time I have gone they are out.

If you are unable to get your hands on a map you can ask (everyone on Prudence Island is very friendly!) when exiting the ferry where to find the place where Roger Williams used to preach to the native inhabitants, this is your destination.

The Clues:
Once you exit the ferry on foot or on bike take a right out of the parking lot. Follow this road along the shoreline. At a fork continue left, right will take you to a great sandy beach which is lovely and worth the extra hike/bike. After some more bends around the shoreline, you will find the historical site on the left side of the road (it is labeled with a brown sign, yellow lettering). Climb up onto this monument and look back towards the sign. A troop from Riverside, RI maintains this site! Now look North East. See the smaller boulder jutting out of the earth and into the woods in the clearing only feet away? Lay your belly on the rock, facing the woods and reach down and to your left. I saw no poison ivy here but did get some scratches from sticker bushes. There is a small ledge that holds the Prudence Island Letterbox, a hand carved outline of the Island!

Please let me know how this box is doing, as I do not get the opportunity to check it very often! Thanks, and happy, happy hunting!
