THE SPIRAL AND THE DRAGONFLY
DIRECTIONS TO GREENHILL PARK:
Take Rt. 290 to the Rt. 9 exit. When getting off the ramp head AWAY from Downtown Worcester. Go past the hospital and up the hill until you come to a set of lights. Take a left onto Skyline Drive and follow this road all the way to the park. Park in the lower parking lot by the Vietnam War Memorial.
CLUES:
To the Spiral
Go to the Place of Names at the memorial. From the center of the Place of Names take a compass reading of 90 degrees east. This will identify which trail into the woods to take.
Proceed up this trail, you’ll need to take two rights and then a left.
Cross over the fallen tree and at the next major trail junction, take the trail on the right. Proceed about 25-30 paces and then look to your right. Take this small path that you find and keep to the left at the fork. At the next intersection there will be a “bench-like” rock. Take 20-25 paces down the left-hand path.
Look right and spy two rocks. Behind the second rock you will find what you seek.
To the Dragonfly
Go back to the “bench-like” rock, take a left, and then straight at the first intersection. At the end of this trail go right proceeding down the rock. At the bottom of the rock, take a left and follow it down to the “bigger trail”. Once at this “bigger trail” go right.
Proceed until a large trail enters on the right. After seeing this, turn left and follow the small trail over the brook.
Keeping straight at the intersection count 65 to 75 paces from the white circle on the ground. Look left for a large multi-trunked oak tree. Look behind this tree and find where the dragonfly hides.
To get back to your car, proceed back to the paved road and take a left.
