The Unless Letterbox is located on the Nature Trails off of Route 6A.

To get there:

From Route 6, take Exit 8. Head towards Union Street (Yarmouth Port.) When you reach the blinking stop light at the end of Union Street, take a left onto Route 6A. You'll drive by the Yarmouth Port Library (where the Scrabble Toy Box resides) and Strawberry Lane with the Edward Gorey House. Shortly after Strawberry Lane, you will see the Yarmouth Port Post Office and immediately after a road that leads to the trails. The parking area was under construction when I went, but you could still park there. At the beginning of the trails, there is a gate house. Your search starts here.

The Historical Society requests a $0.25 donation for children and a $0.50 donation for adults. You should also pick up a trail guide from the mail box next to the door. There is a sign on the door above the mail slot. Count the number of letters in the last word on that sign.

Walk around the garden to the left of the house and around the fence with the "Visitors Notice" and "Dogs Must be on Leash" signs. Head down the gravel path. Do not turn left where the arrow points. Instead, go down the gravel path until you get to Kelley Chapel.

Count the number of shuttered windows on the chapel and the building next door to it. Add to this the number of letters from the sign. This is the numbered marker along the path you need to find. If you cross the grassy patch with the benches you can enter the path at the end. You will shortly come to number 18 and they will count backwards from here. If you want to start at 1, go back to where the arrow pointed left on the gravel path. That is the beginning.

When you reach the number, stand on the path facing the marker. You will see a large evergreen in front of you. Walk behind the evergreen and there is a log on the ground. You will find the Unless Letterbox under that log near the end opposite the gnarly roots. That is, of course, unless you counted incorrectly.

Our Crayon Toy Box is also in this conservation area.

Please re-hide this box carefully. It took me a long time to carve this stamp and I don't think I'm going to do it again if it goes missing. Thanks!
