One of my all time favorite comedy albums is "A Wild and Crazy Guy!" by Steve Martin. It won a Grammy Award in 1979 for Best Comedy Album and the track "King Tut" was released as a single (credited to "Steve Martin and The Toot Uncommons").
Steve Martin was born in Waco, Texas on August 14, 1945.
This letterbox is a tribute to him.
It's planted at the Waco Dam Hike & Bike Trail--a nifty little trail up to the dam, where you can get good views of Lake Waco.
On I35 east of Waco, take exit 339 to get onto Loop 340 / Lake Shore Drive. There is a McDonald’s on the west side of the I35 overpass. Head west on Lake Shore Drive for 5.5 miles. Landmarks you will see are: Hwy 77, Pilgrim’s Pride plant, Brazos River, Waco River Bend Park, Martin Luther King Blvd, Bosque River, MCC baseball fields @ College Dr. and N.19th St. Now look for Airport Rd on the right. Turn right onto Airport Rd and follow for 1.2 miles passing the H.O.T soccer complex to the beginning of a bridge. Turn left at the Waco Hike and Bike Trails sign and head for the parking area. You are now near the Lake Waco Dam.
From the parking area walk up to the information gazebo. There is a water fountain there. From the water fountain, look South/East. You should see an electric gate and some concrete barriers. The gate is flanked by a short wall made up of boulders. Walk to the gate and then follow the wall of boulders East until you come to the 9th one. The Wild and Crazy Guy! letterbox will be under the South/East side of the 9th boulder. There are smaller rocks blocking its hide-out, please arrange them casually when re-hiding the box.
And if you happen to get bit by a snake while poking around the boulder....Excuuuuuuse me!!
