Planted 7-23-02 By : Leader of the Pack and Cowboy for the Mansfield 300 Celebration Rated : Easy short walk.
In Mansfield proceed up Rte 195 through the Uconn Campus as you pass the dorms and the big brick church climb the hill noting farm buildings off to the right. Turn onto Horsebarn Hill Rd. Drive along by the Yellow coops. If you go very slowly you will note the sign marking the two historic yellow coops once part of a large group. Here poultry from all over the world participated in an egg laying contest that lasted years.
Pass the coops and then past the Kellogg dairy center ( restrooms here) Slip over the hill and down past the crops in field to a picnic area at the base of the hill. Pull over and park here. From the left front corner take a compass reading of 340 degrees to head you off in the right direction. Walk across the field here towards the wood and wall . When you get across you will see a trail entrance to the right. Into the shade you go . walk only a small bit . When you see the post marking the red trail entrance stop. To the right of the trail note two large rocks by a leaning birch tree. Behind the rock is your Peep Study letterbox. Stamp and re-hide for others to enjoy. Make sure the lid is tight keep the weather out. Have fun and Be Safe.
