The whole loop will take about 1 ½ hours. The pace is moderate-strenuous. Most of the hike is on dirt paths. NOT accessible after significant rainfall.

Park at the Craftsmen Guild entrance of Tyler State Park, located off of Route 332 in Newtown, PA.

Flamingo Forest

Begin hiking on Trail #1 (trailhead near the parking lot).

After you go over a stone bridge, there is a fork in the trail. Continue on Trail #1, not College Park Trail.

Continue on the paved path over a series of small concrete bridges.

You will pass a white house with a white fence on the right of the trail. Cross a small stone bridge.

Just before the “Caution Sharp Turns” sign and the trailhead for the Barn Grass Trail, turn right onto the path at 115°.

Pass a large boulder on your left.

At the fork in the path, go right. The trail bends down towards the creek.

Go under or around the large fallen tree at 30°.

You will reach a fallen log on that has been cut to make room for the path. As you stand on the trail with a piece of the tree on both sides of you, look up to its base at 300° (to your left). The box is tucked in the upper end of the fallen log.

You can either turn around and retrace your steps back to your car, or continue from this point to find the Panda in the Park.

Panda in the Park

Continue going northeast on the trail with the creek at your right.

Go between two large boulders, and cross over a dry streambed.

When the path forks, go either way (they come back together on the other side).

Go over a series of three fallen trees.

Pass trail post 14 on your right. Pass wooden bridge on your right.

When path veers right and down toward the creek, go to higher ground at 0° due north.

Pass trail post 6 on your right. From the post, go 36 paces (1 pace = 2 steps) to another trailhead.

Take the new trail at 0° due north, straight UP to your left!

Stop when you reach a small clearing where a large tree stands in the center of the path.

The letterbox is hidden at the base of the double-trunked tree where Art and Robin visited in 1986. (The tree is located at 250° from the large tree in the center of the path.) Please recover well.

Loop Back to Your Car!

Retrace your steps back down the trail. Turn left to continue on the original nature trail.

Continue on this trail until you reach a paved path with the causeway in front of you. (If you need to take a break or use the restroom facilities, cross over the causeway. Then, return to this spot to continue the loop.)

Turn right on the paved path. Follow this path past the “No Horses Beyond This Point” sign. (We assume you are not on horseback!) The river should be on your left.

The next path on your right is “Natural Area Trail.” Take it.

Pass “Caution Horse Crossing” sign. The path winds right, then left.

Bear right at large field. (Stay on asphalt path.) The field is on your left and woods are on your right.

The path will reenter the woods. You will see another “Horse Crossing” sign.

Turn right on Stable Hill Trail, which will bring you in from the Craftsmen Guild and back to the parking lot.
