"Ursus Americanus" is the Latin Name for the North American Black Bear...Oswald's Bear Ranch is the only place in the United States that people can see black bears up close...this is a walking tour...not a driving tour...so when visiting the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan be sure to stop and learn about a vanishing resource in the U.S.

To get to the Bear Ranch, head North from Newberry towards Taqhamenon Falls and follow the signs for Oswald's Bear Ranch...and be careful to watch for moose and the signs will sneak up on ya

Oswald's is open from June until September and is a bargain to visit especially with kids for the educational value...but a fellow letterboxer need not enter the ranch to find the box...if you do go...tell Dustin in the bear shop hello...now for the clue's...

After visiting with the cub's and the sow's in their separate enclosures...and seeing black bear fall's...and watching the boar's do their "manly" things...as you are leaving almost disappointed not to have found the stamp...stop and pay homage to the great big "guardian bear"...who is almost as big as old Tyson...guarding the portal to this sanctuary for bruins...at his left hind paw you will see a smiling face looking at you...this is the treasure you seek besides the knowledge you aquired about Ursus Americanus while taking an hour break in the Garden of Eden for abandoned cubs and other bears...have fun.

please let us know how our box is doing at:

bring a pen and a stamp pad as this is almost a micro box
