And make the rain come down.
The Chicagoland area is currently experiencing one of its worst droughts on record. I planted this box in a fun attempt at manufacturing a little rain. This is my first letterbox plant and my first attempt at pink eraser carving.
Your quest for the "Rain Dance" letterbox begins at Delnor Woods Park in St. Charles, IL. It's located on the East side of Rt. 25, approximately 1/4 mile North of Rt. 64.
Take the paved path that starts at the NE corner of the parking lot. Stop for a minute and read about the "Tale of Trees" on your left and the "Bottomland Trees" on your right before you head on. Cross the wooden footbridge and continue on the paved path. When the path splits, go left. Once you turn left there should be a large tree stump on your right and the pond should be on your left. (Is it Duckweed or Slime? You make the call.)
Keep to the path but take a break to read the "Dead Tree" info board on your right. Continue on, and as you round the bend you'll see a group of logs on your left that could be a great place for a critter home or a letterbox. I didn't check for critters, but the box you seek is not there.
Stay on the paved path until you see a red bench on your left. Rest here if you need to. When you're ready, continue on the path by taking 15 steps to the first downed tree on your left. Do a little dance when you find the "Rain Dance" letterbox behind this log.
Please be discreet and re-hide well, this path is very popular with bikers, joggers, dog-walkers, etc. Please bring your own inkpad--any color works, but blue is probably preferred.
After you stamp in and re-hide, continue on the paved path in the direction you were headed. When the path splits you can go left to play on the playground, or take a right to head back to your car.
