Description

Note: On October 25/09, this Letterbox was reported missing. The Letterboxer found the exact location, but there was no Letterbox.

Vietnam, in SE Asia, shares borders with Cambodia, Laos and China and features 3,200 km. of coastline facing the South China Sea. With an area of 332,000 square km. and a population of some 77 million, Vietnam’s topography varies from coastal plains to mountain ranges.

Vietnam has a tropical monsoon climate with dry and wet seasons that vary from north to south and with varying elevations.

As the most densely populated country in SE Asia, population control is an important initiative. 20% of the population is urban and 80% is rural. With over 55 minority languages, the literacy rate in Vietnam is 92%.

Although Vietnam is a socialist republic governed by a communist government, there are many signs of democratic reforms throughout the country.

The market-based economy is extremely vigorous with daily examples of foreign dignitaries visiting the country and offering all types of support, particularly financial, and establishing alliances and mutual initiatives.

Vietnam’s economy is mainly based on rice farming and Vietnam is now the world’s 2nd largest exporter of rice. Vietnam also has substantial exports of rubber, coffee, tea, electricity, crude oil and coal.

With a population over half that of Japan, the hard-working and competent Vietnamese are a force that bodes well for the future prospects of this dynamic country. The current per capita income is about $300.

The Vietnamese people are a beautiful, gentle and friendly race. Visitors to the country are made to feel welcome and there is minimum fear of crime against sensible visitors.

Hue is the cultural, religious and educational heart of central Vietnam. Long regarded as the ‘3rd capital’ of Vietnam, after Hanoi and Saigon, Hue’s landscape with its misty Perfume river and many pagodas is inspiration for poets and painters....and the ‘Hue – Vietnam’ Letterbox.

Hue has a history of war with the Tet Offensive in 1968 resulting in 10,000 deaths. Today, the monuments of Hue are on the United Nation’ World Heritage list, so hopefully, many of the war ravaged sites will eventually be restored.

There are still many very interesting sites and tours available for visitors to Hue. Hue is a ‘must see’ for anyone fortunate enough to be able to visit this historical area.

The Hue Letterbox is an easy find providing it is not discovered and treated as a curiosity piece by some enterprising Vietnam citizen.

Clues

The Hue Letterbox is located in a park on the SE shore of the Perfume River. The park is adjacent to, and NE of, the Trang Tien Bridge. The NE boundary of the park is the Century Riverside Inn.

Make your way into the park from the corner of Le Loi and Boi Cung – the Century Riverside Hotel should be on your right as you are in the park and facing the river.

About 100 metres from the boundary of the park and the hotel, you will see 2 pyramid shaped large rocks surrounded by 5 round rails.

The Hue Letterbox is located about 4 metres south and slightly west of this statue under the NW side of a large flat rock and protected by several smaller stones.

Once you have found the Hue Letterbox and signed in, thank you for replacing the Letterbox to ensure the integrity of its hiding place.

Please ensure that there are sufficient stones protecting the Letterbox so that it is well protected from the view of passersby. Thank you.

We hope you enjoy Hue, its incredible history, the citadel, a boat ride on the Perfume River and the fabulous scenery in your quest for the Hue Letterbox.
