About Harry Agganis (The Golden Greek):
Harry was an outstanding athlete for Lynn Classical High School where he led the school to the National High School Football Championship in the mid 1940's.

Harry went on to be an outstanding football player with Boston University. Boston University named their new arena after Agganis.

After BU, Harry played with the Boston Red Sox. Along with teammate Ted Williams they provided a potent 1-2 punch in their offense.

Harry died at the age of 25 from a pulmonary embolism. His legend continues today with streets, squares, scholarships and many other things named in his honor.

The Clues:
Enter the Pine Grove Cemetery through the main entrance on Boston Street in Lynn. The main entrance is located across from Eastern Bank in the Lynngate Plaza.
Bear right at the first fork in the road.
Bear right at the Chapel with two angels above three arches.
Bear right onto Spruce Ave. The WWI veteran section will be to your left.
Bear right at the next fork (unlabelled road going downhill).
At the bottom of the hill there is a 5-way intersection.
Bear right (do not turn right) and proceed with "Sallidas" headstone to your left. You will soon pass Plot H on the left and Plot K on your right.
At the next intersection turn right and proceed.
Turn right onto Cholla and park immediately.
To you left near the corner you will find the Agganis headstone. It is the tallest headstone on that corner.
Read the dedication on the headstone.
Look at the figure of the Baseball player and notice which way he is looking.
Turn that same direction. In the distance among some trees you will see four white pillars surrounding a cross.
Return to your vehicle and drive towards that area.
When you reach the intersection with the four pillars, turn right.
At the 5-way intersection (marker = Holder) bear left.
At the third right, turn right onto Birch Ave. (note: at this intersection there is a magnificent memorial to the Pevear family)
Follow Birch Ave through three 4-way intersections and then one 3 way intersection.
Shortly past the 3-way intersection you will see a wooded area with a boulder field.
Along the road near the field of boulders there is a water faucet.
Park your vehicle anywhere in the area.
Facing the water faucet you will see a single tree directly behind it about ten feet away.
Just in front of the tree is a boulder.
The Golden Greek letterbox is under the boulder at the base of the tree.

To exit the cemetery:
Pine Grove Cemetery is magnificent in terms of cemeteries. If you can spare the time, explore for yourself. There are many remarkable headstones and other memorials as well as a pond with ducks and turtles. You can also see a great view of the Boston skyline and the Atlantic Ocean from some the the higher elevations. It was established in the mid 1800's and contains approximately 90,000 interments. If you don't have the time and would just like to exit:
Go back on Birch Ave the way you came.
When you reach the fourth 4-way intersection turn right onto Willow Ave.
Follow Willow Ave to the end and turn left onto Poplar Ave.
Follow Poplar Ave to the "One Way" sign and turn right.
Follow this road around to the left and you will be back at the Angels and the exit.
