This box is dedicated to all the letterboxers out there who love this hobby but have absolutely no carving skill whatsoever!

This box is located in Cochituate State Park in Natick, MA. For directions, visit the Department of Conservation and Recreation's website at http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/northeast/coch.htm.

Cochituate State Park is a water park of sorts. Comprised primarily of three lakes, the park offers a number of water-based recreational activities such as boating, swimming, fishing, and wind-surfing. A kayak rental company operates here as well and offers kayak rentals.

At least one trail does exist in the park and it is on that trail, the Snake Brook Trail, where this box is located.

The box can be found either by foot or by kayak. Given the nature of the park, traveling by kayak is much more fun!

To find the box via kayak:

There are two ways to access the ponds by kayak. The first is by launching your boat in Middle Pond via the park's main entrance (a $5 day use fee applies). Kayak rentals are also available here. The second is by launching your boat in North Pond via the fishing access road. To reach this road follow Route 30 East from the park's main entrance. Cross the Turnpike and look for the sign for the access road on the left.

Regardless of which launch location you've chosen, work your way into the small unnamed body of water that sits between North and Middle ponds (this also sits between Route 30 and the Turnpike). If you're coming from Middle Pond -- as you come into this body of water from the underpass look for a trail on the peninsula across and slightly to the northeast of the underpass. If you're coming from North Pond, paddle towards the underpass leading to Middle Pond, turn your boat around before entering it, and follow the directions above. You can land your boat on the edge of the peninsula to reach the trail.

Follow the trail a short distance looking for a significantly large fallen tree on your right side, about 20 steps off the trail. The letterbox is hidden at the base of this fallen tree, on the east side behind some bark. Once you've stamped in, return to your boat via the way you came.

To find the box via foot:

From the park's main entrance, follow Route 30 East and cross the Turnpike. Shortly thereafter, look for a brown sign on the right side of the road indicating the location of the Snake Brook Trail. You'll need to travel down this trail to find the box.

You can park your car by returning to the park's main entrance (a $5 day use fee applies) and walk along Route 30 back to the trail, or by traveling up the fishing access road just past the trail but on the left side of the road. Regardless of where you choose to park, be EXCEPTIONALLY CAREFUL while either walking along or trying to cross Route 30. This road is extremely busy at most times of the day and traffic moves at a significant rate of speed.

Once on the Snake Brook Trail, look for significantly large fallen tree on your left side, about 20 steps off the trail. The letterbox is hidden at the base of this fallen tree, on the east side behind some bark. Once you've stamped in, return to your car via the way you came.

PLEASE re-hide this box well!
