Update: June 2009 Alive & Well
While letterboxing on the Central Coast and running into a mishap we decided to plant a few boxes that are easy to reach from the car. We've been on many quests lately where the clues told us it would be an easy 1/4 mile walk and we ended up hiking for over a mile or more to find the box.
So this box is dedicated to all those letterboxers who've hiked that extra mile only to find the letterbox missing.
(This is our second letterbox in the Central Coast Series)
This box is an easy walk.
Heading North on Hwy 1, pass the town of San Simeon.
A yonder Castle you will see. Over the Little Pico Creek Bridge and onwards to William R. Hearst Memorial State Beach, but do not go into the park.
Drive around as if your heading to the Sebastian Store. Park along the road BEFORE you cross the bridge. Find the opening in the fence. Yes, it's OK to go into the park from here.
Clues: Walk 48 large paces from the opening in the fence on the dirt trail on the right thru the Eucalyptus grove. The creek will be on your right as you count out the paces. Nine large trees in a row along the side of the trail you will pass.
There are four large trees standing guard, the one on the left is in charge. Look at the base of that tree, under leaves and a rock.
Please rehide well. This path is well used by many people going to the beach.
