Box is missing again. :( Will update if it is replaced.

Time: About 20 minutes
Terrain: 3 due to rock crossing (1=Easiest 5=Most difficult)
Difficulty: 2 (1=Easiest 5=Most difficult)
Note: It is best to look for this letterbox when it is low tide (you can check the tide chart at http://www.maineharbors.com/ma/tidemans.htm )

Directions:
Take route 128 north to route 127 in Gloucester. At the light, take a left on Eastern Avenue heading towards Rockport. As you come into town, route 127 will turn left onto Railroad Ave. Do not turn left. Continue straight into town on Broadway. Then turn right onto Mt. Pleasent St. About 1/2 mile down the road, turn left onto Marmion Way. The clues begin across from 34 Marmion Way (you can use this address on Mapquest to get personalized driving directions). Street parking is available.

Clues:
Pirate Sam was once the most feared pirate on the high seas. He is retired now and has spent all of his treasure from his looting days... except, that is, for the last bit of treasure he has hidden away. He can't help but remember his days as a pirate when he follows the path to find his pirate's booty.

Sam starts his journey at the sign that says "Way to Old Garden Path". He heads towards the water, because all pirates (and former pirates) are naturally drawn to the sea. He stays close to the large hedges on the left so that no other pirates that might be lurking around can follow him. As he heads toward the ocean he sees a long chain resting on granite posts and remembers when the Dread Pirate Roberts captured him and chained him up for days without food or water.

At the end of the hedges, he sets off on the foot path on his left. He walks alongside a stone wall and passes a lonely tree with two stumps on his right. As he continues on the path, he comes to a large house with a flat, short stone wall on his left. The wall makes him think of all the times he made someone "walk the plank"... he kind of missed that part of being a pirate.

Next he passes many beautiful flowers on his right as he heads down a little hill. Soon he spots the wooden stairs on his right leading down to a beach... or down into his giant wooden ship from days gone by? At the bottom of the stairs, he looks out across the beach and spots where there is a gap between the two rocky walls on his left. He heads toward that gap, but is VERY CAREFUL as he walks over the rocks.

After he has crossed the beach and maybe dipped his toes in the ocean, he walks up the ramp that is in the gap in the walls. As he nears the top of the ramp, he looks to his right and spots the metal pipe sticking up into the air. He crosses the grassy field and walks right up to the pipe. He is getting excited because he knows his treasure is near!

He looks across the parking lot and sees a line of large rocks, to which he walks straight over. He remembers that he must count over five rocks from the left (he checks to make sure he's not missing any that might be hidden by plant growth). He steps in between the fifth and sixth rock and looks to his right, to a tree with many arms, like an upside-down octopus. He shivers as he remembers the giant octopus that once wrapped its eight arms around his ship and almost crushed it. Hidden on the other side of this tree is his treasure, and he breathes a sigh of relief to find is still there after all of these years!

Once you have finished examining the treasure, please hide it well in the spot where it was before.

You can take the street back to the start, but be careful because some pirates are still searching for Pirate Sam and anyone who might know where his last bit of treasure is hidden.
