THIS IS A DRIVE-BY BOX!
The stretch of road between Palestine and Buffalo has some fine examples of East Texas ranching. Beautiful rolling hills and lush grass make cattle-raising almost irresistable!
I've always found it interesting how ranches come up with the symbols they use as their brands - the good ones are simple yet distinctive. Pate Ranch's brand is no exception. I drove by Pate Ranch on my way to place another box and I decided I had to start this series with it!
From Buffalo, travel East along Highway 79. From the Buffalo city limits sign, continue .5 mile. At the top of a hill on the left will be a sign for the Pate Ranch. Park across the road from the sign. Walk up the incline to your right and you will see a fence - don't touch the fence because it's hot. There are a few trees planted along the fence, but there are a couple that are SLIGHTLY closer to the road than the others. Look at the base of the Eastern-most of those trees under pine straw and a couple of sticks and you will find the box.
Rehide well, and also, would you kindly report on the condition of the camoflauge that has been glued to the box? That's a new experiment!
