Strouds Run State Park
http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/Portals/2/parkmaps/stroudsrunparkmap.pdf
Difficulty: Fairly easy
Terrain: Moderately hilly
Please bring your stamp, a stamp pad, pen and an old rag to wipe off the box/your hands. Bug repellant might come in handy during the summer months.
From Athens head east on U.S. 50 ~ 5 miles to H.W. 690 which takes off left to Strouds Run Park. Go a ways on 690 and look for a smallish sign on the right pointing left to turn onto CR20 and continue on to Strouds Run Park. When you reach the signs pointing to the right to go to the park office and camping area, follow them. You will turn right onto a township road to get to the camping and Park maintenance office. After the Park office the road makes a hard ascending right turn where you will pull off to the left into the small parking area, and find yourself heading to the trail head of Beaver Pond Trail. Park here and begin your quest. Follow the trail down the hill to the wooden bridge and start counting steps at the departure end of the bridge. When you reach 66 steps you should have 2 large trees, one each on the right and left sides of the path. The "Beaver" is behind the uphill tree under sticks. Watch out for the barbed wire around this tree. Do your stamping and please reseal the baggies well to protect the log book. Rehide the pouch and then you may wish to continue on up to the beaver colony living in the beaver pond. I am told, but did not get to make the trip, that there really is a beaver colony up the path a ways. Please let me know if you find it by contacting the placer on LBNA .
