The Cultural Center Letter Box

‘All the Arts for All of Us’

The history of Bass River is of Seafaring Captains and a hub of commerce in the 1800’s. The ‘River’ has changed in many ways over the years, but the style of the ‘Cape Cod’ house, and community has not. One of the mainstays of the area was the “Bass River Savings Bank’, which opened in 1930 after the Great Depression, to help the local seafaring population. In the early 80’s another banking institution bought out the Savings Bank, and as a victim of progress, the building was left vacant. The Town of Yarmouth used the building as a temporary storage area for records, and as offices, when the town hall was being refurbished in the late 80’s.

The bank building sat in disrepair for years until an anonymous buyer purchased the building and surrounding property and donated it to the to ‘the People of Yarmouth.’ With this generous gift, it took many ideas to determine what would be best to portray this endowment into the ‘essence’ of Yarmouth that would draw people from all over, as in the ‘olden’ days.

Founded in 2000, The Cultural Center, which once was of Yarmouth, but now of Cape Cod is a non-profit educational organization, with the emphasis on the ‘Arts for all of us’

This box was placed with the approval of the President of the Board of Directors of the Cultural Center. The clues and location of the box will change from time to time due to the on going renovations to the property and building. For more information and events please visit www.cultural-center.org

Stamp; hand carved

Directions; Take Rte. 6 to exit 8, turn south onto Station Ave. Continue until the third set of lights (Rte 28) go straight through the lights and the ‘future home’ of the Cultural Center will be on your left on the corner of Old Main and Union St. just past the South Yarmouth Library (on the right)

Clues:

Find my Trail Name. Count the words written there, then mulitply that by the total amount of letters. Add again to that total the number of words.
Turn so that the Cultural Center is on your right. Count off the number of steps that you arrived at.

On your left will be a scrubby cedar tree further in is a Lilac. The box is behind the lilac under a rock and some leaves.
