Clue:
Once parked locate 2 granite post. Stand between the 2 granite posts. Follow the path ahead passing columns on both sides as you walk. Keep walking till you are standing under some telephone wires. You will see a red arrow on the tree to your left. Follow that arrow stepping on all 4 posts. Standing on the last post, follow the trail to the left behind the large bolder. From the end of this bolder, walk 40 steps keeping to the left as you walk. You will see a red arrow on your right. From this arrow walk ahead to the 2 stones on your right. With the stones to your back follow the smaller trail ahead of you. Walk to the large tree and stand on the large stone at its base. From here you may see a Swan off in the distance. If not take a look for some Bullfrogs at the waters edge or purple loostrife flowers in bloom during the summer. From the stone at the base of the tree take 5 steps. In the mud you may see all kinds of tracks such as White tailed deer, Red Fox, Coyotes or of course dogs. Now turn so your back is to the water. Walk up the small trail in front of you passing between to large trees. Follow the smaller trail keeping the river on your left. When you come to the green bench with the engraving “Marty Sanders Greenway” sit at the end of the bench with the large flat stone to your right. Look over your right shoulder. You will see another bench. Walk to that bench and sit on the edge with your right shoulder facing the back of the bench. Stand up and walk straight ahead till you see the split in the trail, follow the red arrow. Keep walking with the river on your left keeping your eyes open for the 2nd red arrow on your left. Take 5 steps past the 2nd red arrow to the stone wall on your right. At the base of this stone wall you can see a hole where a chipmunk will run in and out from time to time. Now walk ahead to the beach. You could see up to 7 or more Swans at this beach. This is where I took the photograph I use to make the stamp for this Letterbox. After exploring the beach or feeding the birds walk past the beach following the trail till you see the sign “Life Course #12”. Walk a few feet ahead to where the trail splits. Ok its time for some magic. Think of any number from 1-10 but don’t tell me your number. Write your number on the ground where the trail splits using a stick or you hand. Then start walking following the path to the left. As you walk I will try to think of your #. This trail is a great place for bird watching. I find that if I listen for the birds rather then look, I have better luck. Beware of joggers, dogs or bikes along this trail they come up on you fast when the cant hear you. The Imafulovit Indians were known to walk these trails in the 1700’s imitating the dance of the buckatoo. The dance of this extinct 9 foot bird would ward off bears and wolves that may be on the path ahead. So surly it would scare off dogs and others on the path before you. So as you walk, put your thumbs under your armpits flapping your elbows up and down swaying your neck from side to side singing dolla dolla dolla, buckatoo buckatoo, repeating this call in different tones as you walk. Keep walking like this till you reach a brick pump house on your left. Once at the pump house look to your left then walk down to the river. This is a great location to watch sunsets year round. You may also see some Swans across the river. Once done observing Go back to the trail. Stand with so the brick pump house is on your left. Yes to your left. Start walking till you reach the split keeping left. Keep walking till you reach the next split then take just a few steps to the trail to the right. Turn around to locate the tree with the arrow on it. Stand with this tree on your right. Walk like a buckatoo 29 steps ahead stopping at the small stone in the ground on your right. From this stone count 15 steps then hold you arms in a V shape in the air and say wow! I had time to think of your number and I placed it on the ground in front of you like magic. Now you can put your arms down. Walk over the sand hill to the fence on your left. Follow the fence to the end. You will see a bench pointing to the path you will walk. Follow the path passing the 2 very tall trees. Keep walking all the way to the last stone wall on your left. Stay on the larger trail in front of you till you find the white sign and the red arrow to its right. Follow the red arrow. All the paths will merge keep walking the main trail. Keep walking following the red arrows at the next split as well. You will come to sand box on your left and right. Go to the sand box on your left standing between the first 2 posts in the sand. Hold the rings and swing letting your feet drag in the sand slightly making a line. Now follow that line straight ahead till you reach 2 stone posts that appear to be a gate. Pass through the gate and turn left. Walk till you reach the 2 granite posts. Stand between the 2 posts. Look on the back side of the post to your left. Look at the side of the post that has the engraved picture on it. Count how many letters there are in the first word of the engraving. Stand with your back to this side of the post. Count the stone posts in front of you using the number you got from the engraving keeping them on your left hand side. Look around to make sure nobody is watching and remember what surrounds this post. Keep walking ahead to the opening then walk back and look under some stones besides the post to find the Mute Swan letterbox.
