Not too many people knew about this area until a recent article in the Statesman Journal. It was quite busy this first weekend following the article but I think you'll be able to stamp in where it is hidden without people noticing.

Find your way to the Butte Creek Falls Parking area. Check out the map there.

It is a nice hike to see both the lovely falls within a mile loop! You could head either way on this loop but if you are in a hurry or only want a short hike head toward the Upper Falls.

Also Note: If you have small children or a fear of heights you may Not want to go to the Lower falls because the view is from a high rocky Butte.

The dirt paths do go up and down a bit and are muddy in spots. They say it is a moderately difficult hike. I have a sore knee and it wasn't too bad for me.

Follow the trail as it twists and winds around and when the Upper Falls come into view you will find a small path that heads down the hill off of the main path. Take this path as if you were going to the cave down behind the falls. This could have been a fun place to hide the box but I hadn't brought a flashlight and I didn't know if it would get too wet in there during the winter.

When you've almost reached the base you'll have to step across the tip of a fallen tree that points East across the trail (almost at the falls). It appears that there is a tiny trail that zigs back up the hill on the other side of the tree. Take a step or two up that way and then look under the tree to find our little wild flower. Sorry, I didn't think I could carve anything that would do justice to the falls so the stamp is a flower!

Hope you enjoy this place you might not have known about, we did!

Happy Hunting,
