confirmed ****missing*** as of summer 2006.
since we live in Washington state, it may be awhile before we can replace this. sorry!!

This is a very easy letterbox, kid and dog friendly.
It is located near a park and playground and is a nice place for a picnic and a stretch if you are traveling through this part of Minnesota. ENJOY!

The town of Aitkin is at the intersection of Highways 169 and 210, just north of Mille Lacs Lake and it is on the Mississippi River. In the Center of town there is one stoplight (the only one in the county!).
After enjoying the small town feel of downtown (great old-time Rialto movie theatre, stores and whatnot) head south on 169 for a few blocks until you see the sign for 1st Street SW.
Turn Right (west).
Go 2 blocks and park in the parking lot of the Little league baseball field. Near the road is a sign describing "America's past time".
Follow the paved walk to the right. Some of the signs that you will pass are "Ripple River" and "Half log stucture". Keep following it, pass by the bridge that crosses the river and a sign "Submerged Shelter (tree)".
Straight ahead from this sign is a bench. Sit down and reflect on the crookedness of this river and how it becomes part of the Mississippi.
On your right is an old Willow Tree. The box is on the side of the tree facing the River, tucked under the trunk and covered by dead branches.
