Difficulty: Easy
Distance to LetterBox: 1/2 mile
Status of Letterbox: ALive and Well on 12/26/07
The "Speedy Gonzales" Letterbox is located in Kleb Woods Nature Preserve in Northwest Harris County. This preserve is heavily wooded, but also contains some nice wetlands. It is a great escape from the city, and offers hiking, picnicing and birding.
Directions:
From Hwy 290, exit Muschke Rd and go to FM 2920. Turn left and go to park enterance on left about .3 miles.
To the Mini-box:
From the trail head, go straight to the pavillion. From here, take the left trail (still straight from where you started). Go across the gravel path. Very soon a trail will go off left, but you should stay on the right trail. At next trail junction go right again. The trail will now curve around, heading back to the front of the park, and will come to another trail junction (cross over trail). Take the left trail, and count 41 steps to a multi trunk bush on the left edge of trail. Go 11 more steps on the trail. You should be near a large pine on your left. Turn left and go Southeast at 150 degrees for about 25 the tall pine tree. The letterbox is at the back base of this tree, covered with pine needles and bark.
