These boxes are temporarily down, due to bad weather and river runoff. 6/5/07

This is a group of 3 letterboxes placed by Girl Scout Troop 200 for Girl Scout Spring Fling at Clatter Valley Park in New Milford. Our theme for 2005 was insects. They are each easy to find, so try them all, especially with the younger crowd.

Letterbox #1
Cross over the bridge that the Eagle scouts made. Pass the hemlock that has a branch that looks like an alligator head and up the little hill pass the little trail going to the left. Look on the right for a dead hemlock leaning against another, it also had a branch stuck in it. The insect awaits you about 12 steps off the trail.
Be sure to hide again well and retrace your steps to return.

Hide well with leaves!!!!!

Letterbox #2
Cross over the bridge that the Eagle Scouts made. Take the trail to the right. Go past the hemlock branch shaped like an alligator’s head. Go up the short hill and look for a trail going to the left. Take that trail and go up the hill until the trail comes to a “T”. Turn right and look for a large rock just off the trail. The insect will await you there.

Be sure to re-hide well.

Retrace your steps to return.

Letterox #3
Cross over the bridge the Eagle Scouts made. Take the trail to the right. Then, take the trail (17 steps to the left) and follow the brook. Step over the rocks. When you can see the pond, just before crossing, take a compass reading of 215 degrees. The insect will be hiding at the base of the tree.

Be sure to hide well and retrace your steps to return.

Please let me know if there are any problems with the boxes. Sometimes this park can be busy. And, both the Girl Scouts and the Cub Scouts have week long summer camps here. Have fun!
