Antonio Vivaldi was a Venetian who lived from 1678-1741. This ordained priest, who learned to play violin from his father, a barber, has written music that has withstood the test of time for over 250 years. The opening of this particular concerto can be recognized by the masses, whether they are music aficionados or not. This is the first box in a series of four dedicated to Vivaldi and his immortal work.

To the Park:
From the east side of Loop 224 in Nacogdoches, travel east on Hwy 7 approximately 9 miles to CARL MONK SCENIC OVERLOOK. You will turn right into this roadside park. However, you must keep your eagle eye open as the sign and drive way can be easily missed.

To the Box:
1. Find and read the marker about Carl Monk. From here, spot the picnic area.

2. Walk to the second pavilion and stand between the trash can and the fence. The fence will be to your right and the trash can on your left.

3. As you walk along the fence, begin counting the fence posts. At fence post number 11, you will find Spring buried beneath the leaves and twigs.

4. Please enjoy the view and notify me via e-mail of Spring's status.

Springtime is upon us.
The birds celebrate her return with festive song,
and murmuring streams are softly caressed by the breezes.
Thunderstorms, those heralds of Spring, roar, casting their dark mantle over heaven,
Then they die away to silence, and the birds take up their charming songs once more.

On the flower-strewn meadow, with leafy branches rustling overhead, the goat-herd sleeps, his faithful dog beside him.

Led by the festive sound of rustic bagpipes, nymphs and shepherds lightly dance beneath the brilliant canopy of spring. ~~A. Vivaldi
